If you are talking about Peasents and traders, you could mention, the bias sides of the Civil War. Parliamentarians went into farmers straw houses, attacked them, stole all their stuff, then forced them to either, support their side of the war, or join them as soldiers. Peasents and Farmers had no choice about this, and therefore had to join them, otherwise the soldiers just slaughtered them, and stole ALL of their resources, to keep people going and to make sure they starved.
You are quite right, this sort of thing did happen, but
both sides did it, not just the Parliamentarians. For example, the Royalist nobility expected the men living on their lands to join their regiments when ordered. If they did not, then they could expect to be severely punished. As usual, ordinary people suffered in wars and often had little or no choice as to whether they took part or on whose side they fought.
By the way, your information on Shrewsbury was definitely worth including. How can pupils PEE if they don't have any examples? Furthermore, it is '
local history', finding out about where you live, and realising that long before we were around people lived where we do now. Well done to your teacher for helping you learn about it and to you for obviously valuing it and remembering it.
