Hello,
my task is to prepare for an unseen essay question regarding the opposition and support to the Nazi Regime.
"You must consider the actions these groups took to provide ACTIVE opposition or ACTIVE support"
i would ask for help and information on some of these groups and maybe what i could generally talk about.
thankyou

It all sounds fairly straightforward - sounds just to be about the accumulation of factual knowledge.
Have you been provided with a list of groups who supported and opposed him, or is the first task to assemble that list yourself?
Secondly, do you know what kind of question you are going to be asked; the research task is merely the accumulation of knowledge, but is the question going to demand a certain historical skill?

Um, we are to assemble the list ourselves. and was wondering what some interesting groups to research would be.
For support, i was thinking of referring to Hitler Youth and wasnt to sure about another group.
and for opposition, was thinking of referring to the Reichsbanner and Bishop von Galen of Munster.
oh and you are able to talk about individuals aswell.
Would these groups be okay and what would another interesting Support group be?
The question is unseen and the task is also asking to "demonstrate your historical knowledge, skills and understanding".
Hope i answered your question, and thanks for your help

Ah - well then it's much harder.
Keep checking back at this list - it will grow as I add more to it!
The problem is that, if your teacher has asked you to compile a list of groups which supported AND which opposed Hitler, s/he has asked you bascially to make a list of everybody in Germany in the 1930s!
Groups which supported Hitler
There are a whole load of state-created/state-sponsored organisations which you need to include:
- SA
- Gestapo/SS
- RAD
- HJ/BDM
- the army swore an oath of allegiance to Hitler; many officers hated him and all he stood for, and there were various plots to depose him, but generally the army remained loyal to the end.
The official Church generally supported Hitler - The Catholics after the Concordat, the Protetsants fairly much all the time
Nationalists supported Hitler
Antisemites supported Hitler
Many industrialists supported Hitler - feared Communism. This included many foreign industrialists such as Henry Ford.
Amazingly, many Jews supported Hitler - Jewish businessmen feared Communism, and many Jews were still on Hitler's side until Kristallnacht.
Many middle-class people - shopkeepers, small businessmen - supported Hitler
Many aristocrats supported Hitler, again for fear of Communism
Groups which opposed Hitler
Communists
The opposition parties disbanded quickly, but there were some who turned to terrorism:
- Reichsbanner
After 1937, when the Pope's message 'With Burning Concern' attacked Hitler as 'a mad prophet with repulsive arrogance', some Catholics oppsoed hitler, but not very openly.
Cardinal van Galen was an individual, but he was supported by many germans (it is strange the way ordinary germans united to oppose and stop euthanasia of the disabled, but turned a blind eye to antisemitism)
Niemoller and the 'Confessing Church'
Eidelweiss Pirates and a number of other youth gangs
Sophie Scholl and the White Rose
Herbert Baum's group
In 1944, a group of army officers and intellectuals called the Kreisau Circle tried to bomb Hitler
Increasing numbers of Jews resisted - Grynzpan,
Keep checking back at this list - it will grow as I add more to it!
