Hi , i have been set an essay on if the act of union was a success or a failure. What i don't understand is the success that came out of this act. I know the reasons to why the act was made but i am having difficulties in understanding what kind of success it brought.

thanks.

I'm aware that this is a shallow answer (I'm not really very well read-up on the Act of Union) but:

Success = good consequences
Failure = bad consequences

Does this get you started - at least with your research?

For me the big question is this; did it stop the endemic conflict between England and Scotland (which had NOT been stopped by the shared monarchy)?

Oops, i forgot to mention in the question that it is the Act of Union in 1800 which involved Ireland. However, looking at the good consequences does get me started on identifying the success of this Act.
