what was the norman conquest of england in the second half of the eleventh contury? did it have much effect on the attitudes to crime and punishment in england? im stucck hmm :/ wacko.gif

There is a brief statement here, which goes on to detail later changes to the law.

You will be interested in this webpage and this original document (one version adds this comment: "The laws of William the Conqueror, is probably the sum and substance of all the enactments made by that sovereign. Especially interesting are the reference in § 6 to the wager of battle-the first mention of that institution in English law-and the law against capital punishment in § 10.").
