Charles Dickens - Portsmouth And Gosport History Project

Well, I must say there doesn't appear to be a lot about this on the internet; but all is not lost.
One place to start might be the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum. The home page gives some details of Dickens' first three years of life in Portsmouth and also mentions three visits later in his life, including two when he was a famous writer and gave public readings of his books. Museums generally aren't able to give help over the telephone or e-mail, but why not visit to see what they can do to help? Perhaps best to telephone first.
This page gives a little more detail, but otherwise I couldn't find much else.
However, I think the best thing to do would be to visit your local library or, even better, the Central Library at Portsmouth Guildhall. They have a very large local studies section and I am sure they will be able to help you. They may even be able to show you copies of newspapers from his visits when he was famous.
Good luck; if you need any more help, let us know.
