Welcome to the Forum.
Funnily enough, this very cartoon is on the
Dunkirk page of Mr. Clare's excellent website, so that would be a good place to start. There are other useful sources on the page as well.
A few questions to think about;
Why is the British soldier saying 'Very well,
alone?' (Think about when the cartoon was published.)
Which country do the bombers belong to?
Look at the weather conditions. What is the cartoonist, David Lowe, trying to say here about the mood of the time?
Look at the soldier's attitude/stance. How would you describe him?
What is the
message of this cartoon, do you think? (What is it trying to say?)
What is the
purpose of this cartoon? (Why is it saying this?)
Hope that this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.
