I am writing a long essay over the course of two weeks about the role of transport in the industrial revoloution and details on the internet are quite repetitive.
does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks,
the lynx2.

EDIT: yes the title is the role of transport in the industrial revoloution. smile.gif

I must apologise for not having replied earlier. We haven't forgotten you and will hopefully be posting some useful material very soon. As a matter of interest, does your long essay have any particular focus apart from 'the role of transport'?

Right: back again. I assume you have looked at these two sites, which form a brief introduction:

schoolshistory.org.uk/Industrial Revolution/transport.htm

and:

historylearningsite.co.uk/transport_1750_to_1900.htm

There is also a brief article here, although it does not go into details:

http://modern-british-history.suite101.com...rial_revolution

The following GoogleBooks references might be useful. The first is a general survey, 'The Cambridge economic history of modern Britain', by Roderick Floud, Paul A. Johnson:

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=AWC60ko...%22&f=false

However, if you have the time, this might be more specific: 'Transport in the industrial revolution',
by Derek Howard Aldcroft, Michael J. Freeman:

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=tX27AAA...;q=&f=false

I hope that some of this is useful. As I mentioned before, if we know the title of your essay we may be able to give some more help. Best wishes.

Never mind: I am glad it arrived in time to help. It is one of the great pleasures of working on the forum to hear back from students who have found the information given helpful, and even added their own help, as you have elsewhere. Thank you.
