I don't understand the question for my coursework so would be gratefull for any help

The question is "Why had stalemate developed on the western front by the end of 1915"

Remember that we are very limited in how much help that we can give, according to the coursework guidelines. I would suggest that you print out this reply and attach it to the notes/sources which you presumably keep with your coursework. You should also make a reference to it in any bibliography or list of sources. Sorry to sound so serious, but I don't want you to lose marks.

A stalemate is a position in a war, or a game, e.g. chess, where neither side can win. So, the question is basically asking, 'What had happened during the war so that, by the end of 1915, neither side could win on the Western Front?'
