Elizabeth and Mary
Elizabeth and Mary were cousins. In 1562 Elizabeth fell ill with small pox which nearly killed her. Elizabeth seriously thought about marriage. There were several foreign suitors who tried to win her over but by playing them along she kept their friendship. However time was not her side.
Which was a problem to Elizabeth because she needed a child for a successor.
To hide her age she used cosmetics also to hide her scars from her smallpox, but the cosmetics contained led which made her scars worse. When she became queen of England she said, “ I am already married to the kingdom of England”. Elizabeth’s political adviser positively encouraged her to stay spinster.
