Use of ICT empowered the pupils. They enjoyed using ICT to study
Elizabeth I, but when it came to creating their own pages they took on a
new role and responsibility. As they became Multimedia authors
they became teachers themselves. They relished the responsibility
and produced an (almost) finished website.
-
Creating the webpage made pupils revise and think about their work over
the term in an entirely new perspective. Usually pupils would
create a summary poster - creating a webpage was an entirely new and
dynamic solution.
-
ICT was used as a tool to help them make the most of their history
studies - rather than the other way round. This was an essential
element to the entire term's work. We made successful use of ICT
to enhance the learning rather than replace existing activities.
-
Pupils were visibly keener and more critical of their own work.
This self-awareness was an unexpected but pleasing development.
They took greater care over their work.
-
ICT facilitated their learning - the promise of their work extending
over the Internet was a large attraction.
-
I was pleased to see the differences - the ability to interact and
respond to events on screen allowed pupils to investigate issues in
their own way and go over aspects they didn't understand meaning their
knowledge and understanding improved.
-
In the department assessment on the Spanish Armada every pupil put
across the concept that it was a combination of factors that led to the
failure. This was a clear understanding developed from the ICT
activities.
