Elizabeth’s money problems

Elizabeth disliked using the parliament and with her 45 years as Queen she only used the parliament for 36 months. Some members of the parliament (MP’s) believed that they should be allowed to speak what they wanted and say what they wished in the parliament.

To this Elizabeth disagreed so she sent several MP’s to prison for criticising her plans.

Elizabeth chose to give up many of her monopolies. She also seemed to be  giving in to the MP’s. By making a special speech to parliament she kept her respect and dignity. One of the MP's wrote

‘’  Her well chosen words so learnedly

            composed did delight her hearers

            with admiration.’’

            Through all Elizabeth’s great

            Power she still did not forget that

            She needed the respect and

            Support of her people.

           This was a lesson that James I

           And Charles I never really

           Understood or learnt.
