Encylopaedia Britannica guide to black history A fabulous site packed with information, images and accounts of black history. Including audio and video materials, this site is superb for independent student research.
Africans in America Professional US based site offering some good information combined with interesting images and source material.  Clear US slant, but used with other sources, this is first class.  
Black Peoples of the Americas - links A series of key questions that, when selected, offer selected internet links to help pupils find the answers.  A really helpful collection of specific links to research.
Amistad research center Ideal source of information relating to study of the Black Peoples of America.  Not specifically geared towards the Amistad rebellion, but more usefully a much wider range of Black history.  
Black Facts A site that chronologically lists the achievements of coloured people throughout history - good for identifying and introducing this topic.  Use the search box! 
Black and Asian history map Covering more information than is required for this topic, this site is a splendid gateway to information.  Using the search and other tools, relevant material can easily be found.
 
The Slave Trade A clearly organised and comprehensive collection of information about the Slave Trade from Spartacus Internet.  An excellent starting point with a great deal of material to examine.

Chronology A timeline charting the events relating to the abolition of slavery throughout the world.  Very useful for an overview of key events.
 
A history of the Klu Klux Klan An online investigation into the Klu Klux Klan, suitable for school pupils.  Examines viewpoints, interpretations and effects accompanied by a brief history and recommended links.
A Hundred Years of Terror A text heavy and detailed report into the history of the Klu Klux Klan.  A great source of information relating to the emergence of the KKK.
 
Martin Luther King 'scavenger hunt' A superb exercise allowing pupils to research information about the famous civil rights leader using recommended sites on the Internet.
Civil Rights report A well presented and accessible examination of civil rights issues covering the struggle for equality for Americans of African descent.  As the report concludes, the struggle continues.
Black presence This site offers a history of black people with some excellent topical information helpful for pupils to identify the troubles that exist today.
