Overview of World War II and its consequences

 Site

   Description
World War II An excellent collection of articles about the Second World War.  Begins with a brief summary, then pupils can select the section or event they wish to know more about.
BBC History The BBC History WWII pages.  As usual, the information and presentation is first class, and makes this difficult topic accessible for all.  To hear the audio clips, a RealAudio plugin is required.
The Home Front From WGS school, an extremely useful interview carried out by a Year 9 pupil.  By visiting this site you can learn all about one person's experiences on the Home Front.
Abe's Story A moving and horrific description of one man's experience of the Holocaust.  Easily navigable using an interactive map, this site is an excellent way for Year 9s to learn about the Holocaust.
Virtual tour of Auschwitz Particularly thoughtful and well put together site introducing the horrors of Auschwitz at the correct level for KS3 pupils.  Carefully introduced, this is a superb historical resource despite being very text heavy.
Buildup and causes A GCSE site from the BBC that provides a fine summary of events from 1918-1939.  Flash intensive, although another version is available.
Anne Frank online Another well designed site that is a vital visit for any pupils wishing to learn more about life under the Nazis.  Not entirely finished yet, but still extremely useful.
World War II An excellent collection of articles about the Second World War.  Begins with a brief summary, then pupils can select the section or event they wish to know more about.
Pearl Harbor Brief outline of the event which caused the USA to enter World War II.  Summary including photographs, posters and quotations.
The Atom Bomb This site has two goals - to provide accurate information concerning the impact of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and to provide the context for constructive discussion of what the world can learn from the event.  It succeeds admirably in both respects.
Interactive timeline From the History Place, an interactive timeline of the Second World War.  Each major event can be selected for more detail.
Effects of WWII A quick summary explaining the effects of the Second World War - how did the outcome affect the world?  This short page explains...
